Fabio Hager Sexteto

During my last stay in Buenos Aires I bought two CDs of Fabio Hager Sexteto (Retorno and Zona de Riesgo), which is a very special and really versatile Tango orchestra. The range goes from jazzy Quickstep (Rubias de New York) to traditional songs (Recuerdo and El Apache Argentino) to Piazzolla songs (Zita, Libertango) and some really beautiful new interpretations of older songs (Patetico). Especially the last one is arranged in very modern style with high dynamics. I was really impressed by that, I consider this a nice song for shows and I think we will see lots of couples in the future performing to that one (see below).

Otros Aires

Hello Tangueros y Tangueras,

I am back from Buenos Aires where I went shopping for new Tango CDs, so I will introduce some new and old Orchestras over the next few months. Lets start for now with Otros Aires and their new CD 4 (yes it is called just “4”). Most Tangueros will know Otros Aires and lots of you will classify Otros Aires as a Neotango group. Actually, I am not so sure whether I should describe Otros Aires just with the tag “Neotango”. The music is much more than the usual Electrotango, even if the group is playing lots of percussions and samples. Otros Aires was  founded in 2003 by Miguel di Genova (Guitar, Samples), Toni Cupedo (Bass) and Josep Lluis Guart (Keyboards) in Barcelona. One year later, Hugo Sattore (Bandoneon), Pablo Lasala (Piano and Keyboards) and Emmanuel Mayol (Percussion) completed the group. Initially, they used traditional samples from the classical Orchestras and added electronic beats, sequences and rhythms to create new music. Some pieces are tangos, some milongas, some slow valses but sometimes it is difficult to classify. Lot of the tracks are danceable and able to create a new flavour on a dancefloor. Here some samples of general Otros Aires tracks (not only from “4”):

Lucio Arce – A la Salida del Cabaret

Der Tango Künstler, den ich im May 2013 vorstellen möchte ist Lucio Arce mit seiner CD “A la salida del cabaret”

http://www.puntotango.com.ar/lucio-arce-presenta-a-la-salida-del-cabaret/

Featured artist for May 2013 is Lucio Arce with his new CD “A la salida del cabaret”

http://www.puntotango.com.ar/lucio-arce-presenta-a-la-salida-del-cabaret/

I know, this is a 2012 CD, but sometimes it takes time to get a new CD up to the tropical north. Listening to the songs, I was totally fascinated by the new sound of Lucio Arce who builds a bridge from traditional tango style to modern chanson, but you still can feel a little bit of the master Carlos Gardel in the background. It is mainly unplugged “singer songwriter” tango, but it feels good and it is really danceable.
